Miracle Theatre

Miracle Theatre Company tours productions of classic works and new writing; funny, highly visual and intensely dramatic. It has become one of the most popular professional theatre companies in the South West with a growing repertoire and a reputation for entertaining, intelligent, funny and often startlingly original theatre that builds instant rapport with audiences.

Recently they have been hard at work bringing together all the elements for their brand new touring production, Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. The company, based at here at Krowji have been making unusual use of their surroundings to film scenes for use in the play. They have set up a makeshift studio, both inside and out, which will enable plenty of scope for video and special effects to enhance the sci-fi themes of the play.

"For this production we have employed techniques more usually seen on the big screen to bring this fast moving story to the small stage," says Miracle's Artistic Director Bill Scott.  "Our creative team has now worked together on several films as well as many Miracle shows. A production process has evolved using video, models, blue screen and digital animation, woven into live performance, that will give a unique style to Cat's Cradle."

Cat's Cradle is a zany satire on our obsession with Modern Science, which promises progress while actually bringing about the end of the world. Although the play is set in the 60s (when the novel was written), the themes, in this case the effects of human behaviour on the planet, are even more relevant today. Like Miracle Theatre, Kurt Vonnegut liked to use laughter to explore important themes and Cat's Cradle is a perfect vehicle for Miracle's established blend of physical theatre, comedy, film and music.

There will be a preview performance of the show - open to the public - at Redruth School on Thurs 20th November at 7.30pm. Preview tickets are priced at £5/£4 students and can be booked through Redruth School on 01209 203782. There will also be the chance to chat with the company afterwards.

The tour officially opens on Friday 21st November at the Burrell Theatre in Truro (01872 246042) and then tours across Cornwall and the Uk until the end of March 09.
