Krowji plans for Christmas in Redruth
13 October 2009
Ross Williams, Director of Krowji, says "our main aim is to establish a lively, inclusive and self-sustaining festival that is community led and benefits the residents of Redruth whilst supporting local traders and increasing the footfall in the town."
Thanks to generous funding from Redruth Town Council and a number of fundraising activities organised by members of the RCEG this Christmas the centre of Redruth will be adorned with vibrant festive themed flags designed and made by Redruth artist Sean Donohoe.
Saturday 28th November will mark the start of Christmas celebrations in Redruth with a dazzling children's procession in which all the schools and youth groups in the Redruth area have been invited to take part. The RCEG has commissioned local artists Bec Applebee, Tony Minion and Kate Beesley to run skill share sessions and artists' workshops with the schools and youth groups to create festive artworks, textiles and music for the procession. The procession this year is being funded by a joint grant from The Arts Council's FEAST programme and The Grassroots Fund.
There will be a free Christmas grotto again this year which will be open every Saturday throughout the Christmas period. Bec Applebee is collecting old photographs of Redruth to make a display for the window of the grotto. Bec says, "we hope this will evoke many fond memories of past Christmases in Redruth and encourage the local community to get involved in future Christmas festivities." If you have any old photographs of Redruth please contact Elisa McLeod.
A programme of free street entertainment will run every Saturday on the lead up to Christmas. The RCEG is looking for dancers, musicians and street entertainers who would like to get involved in the celebrations this year. Events planned so far include free children's rides sponsored by the Redruth Rotary Club, a nativity play and carol singing.
The RCEG is now in the process of preparing the Christmas Events programme, an A5 printed booklet listing all Christmas events in Redruth this year. 10,000 copies will be distributed to every house and retail outlet in Redruth. This is a fantastic opportunity for companies or organisations to advertise their services to the people of Redruth and at the same time contribute to brightening up the town this Christmas. For more information please contact jthomas@penventon.com. Please note the deadline for final advertisements is Friday 16th October.
If you are planning a Christmas event this December the RCEG would be only too happy to advertise it in the calendar section of their programme. Please email the date, time, location and a short description (maximum 40 words) to elisa@actcornwall.org.uk by Friday 16th October. They make no charge for this service, however any donations towards the Christmas Events would be appreciated.
For further information on any of the Redruth Christmas events please contact Elisa McLeod at Krowji on 01209 313200 or email elisa@actcornwall.org.uk
